Appleby Engineering Limited is a privately owned New Zealand company, established in 1975, with many years experience in the power generation and stationary diesel engine markets in New Zealand and elsewhere.  The company has evolved over the years from its base as a service provider to the diesel engine generator market, to its current position as a leading supplier of generator sets and generator set control panels.

Auckland Mail Centre GeneratorFounded by John Appleby, after obtaining considerable experience in his sojourn to the United States where he was employed by Detroit Diesel Corporation and involved in a number of power engineering projects. His return to New Zealand heralded the start of Appleby Engineering Limited and, after earning the respect of one of the world’s foremost power engineering companies, an association with the GMI-Pramac group of Europe.  This association enables Appleby Engineering to access a wide product range involving leading manufacturers such as Deutz, Volvo, MTU, Perkins, Lombardini, Mecc Alte and Newage Stamford. Special build control and instrumentation is mainly sourced from Deep Sea Electronics.

The company has created a point of difference over its competitors by specialising in ‘turnkey’ type projects where an engineered solution is provided encompassing mechanical, electrical and acoustical engineering. This ‘specialisation’ involves a wide, versatile range of gensets from 6kVA to 2500kVA able to satisfy all applications and requirements. Today, with commercial arrangements in place to guarantee quality, reliability and durability, Appleby Engineering has the experience and technical know how to develop solutions to answer every type of request no matter how particular or specific.

The sectors of activity have included:

  • Industrial: To ensure constant and reliable power supply in applications where security of supply is paramount, such as IT, manufacturing stability, order processing, logistics, etc. For ‘peak lopping’ or ‘base loading’ where the objective is reduced energy costs.
  • Communications: For guaranteed provision of continuous supply of power, available during possible interruption to ensure services, data and devices integrity.
  • Public and Civil Services: Applications for hospitals, highways, public transport, medical centres, water treatment and the like.
  • Utilities: Embedded generation as alternative sources to national power supply companies
  • Agricultural: Power supplies for irrigation and any other application

Developing solutions requires capacity analysis, project management, project realisation – following customer requests and necessary technical and safety standards.

Appleby Engineering has the capability to provide complete solutions according to market demands and requests.
